The Yorkshire County Fish Shop opened on October 1, 1999 <ref name= "D23"> https://d23.com/a-to-z/yorkshire-county-fish-shop/ </ref>. The restaurant originally opened as the Harry Ramsden Fish and Chip Shop just in time for Epcot's millennium celebration <ref> http://www.prnewswire.co.uk/news-releases/harry-ramsdens-to-open-at-disney-epcot-156700695.html </ref>. According to Disney historian Jim Korkis, the creation of the quick service stand was a result of the high guest demand for fish and chips at the nearby [[Rose & Crown]] <ref> http://yourfirstvisit.net/2016/01/08/a-friday-visit-with-jim-korkis-the-rose-crown-pub-at-epcot/ </ref>.

In 2006 the name of Harry Ramsden Fish and Chip Shop was changed to Yorkshire County Fish Shop following a refurbishment <ref> http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/harry-ramsdens-epcot.94956/ </ref>. Yorkshire County was the location of the original Harry Ramsdens <ref> https://www.theguardian.com/uk/the-northerner/2012/feb/06/harry-ramsdens-fish-and-chips </ref>, and despite the name change the restaurant continued under its previous operator. In December 2010, Harry Ramsden ended its sponsorship of the restaurant <ref name= "D23"/>.
