Pete's Silly Sideshow[edit]

Pete's Silly Sideshow is a meet and greet attraction located in Fantasyland.

Attraction History and Description[edit]

When Disney announced plans for the Fantasyland Expansion at the 2009 D23 Expo, Pete's Silly Sideshow was not included. Instead, the area that would eventually become Pete's Silly Sideshow was earmarked for Pixie Hollow, an area based on the Disney Fairies franchise [1]. By 2011 however plans for the expansion had changed. Due to the perception that New Fantasyland focused too much on princesses and other "feminine" characters [2], the land was reworked. At the D23 Expo in 2011, Disney unveiled their new Fantasyland Expansion plans [3]. In this version of New Fantasyland, an expanded Storybook Circus area took the place of Pixie Hollow, and among the attraction located in the new "subland" was Pete's Silly Sideshow, a circus themed meet and greet location [3].

Pete's Silly Sideshow opened on December 6, 2012 [4]. The meet and greet attraction is housed in the former location of (half of) the Judge's Tent in Mickey's Toontown Fair [5]. The attraction is themed as a kind of Ten-in-One sideshow (a sideshow where guests would see various acts performing different tricks) hosted by Pete. Pete's Silly Sideshow houses two lines. In one line guests queue to meet "the most charming of snake charmers"- The Astounding Donaldo (Donald Duck) and "circus stuntman extraordinaire"- The Great Goofini (Goofy) [6]. In the second line, guests wait to meet the "Siren of the Seine”- Minnie Magnifique (Minnie Mouse) who is an expert poodle trainer, and the mysterious gypsy fortuneteller- Madame Daisy Fortuna (Daisy Duck) [7].

  • A calliope can be found playing music outside of Pete's Silly Sideshow. The top of the calliope reads "Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom," this is a reference to the 1953 Adventures in Music educational short of the same name [8].
  • According to Disney, the music emanating from the calliope was "recorded from a set of antique circus crank organs owned by a collector in Southern California". [9]
  • On the bottom of the calliope guests can read that the calliope was manufactured by the Melody Time Brass Horn Co. and used by the Melody Time Brass Horn Band. This is a reference to the 1948 Disney package film Melody Time [8].
